Coimbatore in 2009

MADURAI IN 2009 - News, Happennings, Potential, Updates, Happennings, Improvements

Sponsored by OruAcre.com

Coimbatore - the big village is always a village. There is progress in development and growth, but it is not as normal or as expected. The progress is very slow.

Given an example and a pity situation of Coimbatore -
An article in Hindu dated April 28, 2008 about the New Airport terminal in Coimbatore that - New airport terminal at Coimbatore to be ready by next March that is March 2009. Hello!! Today's date is nearing Jan 2010.

Will we achieve improvements in Coimbatore? What is lagging in Coimbatore? What is stopping the progress? Isn't there enough funding or resources for the project? Is it because of corruption among officials and contractors?

I am going to cover lot of topics and happenings in this article for Coimbatore in 2009 including - Health, Society, Business, Politics, IT, BPO, Entertainment - Movies, Passport office, Happennings, Improvements, Changes and Status of people.

Coimbatore Business:

To begin with - due to market slump across the globe, there is a dip in Coimbatore businesses especially Information Technology (IT and ITeS) and real estate. Last year (i.e.,2008) in Coimbatore, there were steep prices of lands and houses. Even agricultural lands in villages around Coimbatore were very expensive. But, this year 2009, Coimbatore's real estate has fallen down drastically. Lands prepared as plots are just waiting just like that. Very few buyers, so real estate agents are starving for sales of their lands. Hoping to see some improvements in the coming year 2010.

Coimbatore Slums:

Speaking about businesses and richness in Coimbatore, there are still slums in Coimbatore. Though there are many SHGs and NGOs cropping up, we are not in a situation of completely getting rid of slums and improve. However, there is increasing awareness among people in Coimbatore slums. Credit goes to NGOs and communication/media technologies like Cell phones and TVs etc.,.

Coimbatore Politics:

In Political grounds, there had been significant contribution to Tamil Nadu and India. There was Thirumangalam elections in early part of the year and changed tamil nadu politics significantly. It was a sweeping victory for DMK, though it is just a small constituency. It was a prestige issue for DMK in regards to this election and DMK did it. Tirumangalam constituency got benefited to a great extent. In fact, there were many common citizens who spent a lot due to a "stimulus" money contribution from all the parties in this constituency. Mr.MK Azhagiri became Southern Districts Seyalaalar - the one man having control over all the southern districts. Mr.MK Azhagiri becoming a Cabinet Minister from Coimbatore. Also, the fertizers minister has promised that he would change Coimbatore to a Model city. Also, Mr.Azhagiri promised steps to establish major industries in southern districts. It is a great belief that there would be great improvements in the city, considering Mr.Azhagiri's new positions in the political arena. As you can imagine, it is not one day task, so we are hoping things will materialize in the coming days.

Coimbatore Movies and Entertainment:

In the entertainment section, too many movies based in Coimbatore has been out in the theatres. Coimbatore has been heavily untapped market for the movies and lately that was discovered. Subramaniapuram (end of 2008), Coimbatore Sambhavam, Coimbatore to Theni Vazhi Andipatti, Nadodigall are few of them. Usually, there has been movies based on Coimbatore and Chennai. People were bored I believe and now it is time for Coimbatore also. Now, people are bored of movies based in Coimbatore. I think it is beaten to the core by now.

Coimbatore Infrastructure:

Infrastructural improvements are just on the same status. Even if there has been progress, it has been minimal or slow. Coimbatore's airport terminal is still in progress. Coimbatore's AIIMS plan has been just stopped after the foundation ceremony. When dinamalar complained about why AIIMS is not progressed, State government claims that it is a central government project and it is not in our control. Central government is in the process of starting back the project - hopefully!

IT Park was started and ELCOT is progressing on that - but there is no success story yet. Hopefully next year there will be a better status and I am hoping I don't write the same status again in 'Coimbatore in 2010'.

I remember, a CPI Leader even proposed for for Anna University in Coimbatore, which did not materialize. Aeropark in Coimbatore was proposed by someone, but that also did not materialize. Only AIIMS, IT Park and Airport Terminal is in next steps to proposals.

Coimbatore Education:

Coimbatore Library to go hitech with some computers. Currently it has 1 lakh books for lending and 56000 books for references.

Coimbatore Tourism:

Many Hotels, Theatres have come up. Heritance hotels has been opened in Coimbatore. Many cinema theatres are renovated and bought by biggies and improved. Good for Coimbatore people, who do not have any entertainment.

Chithrai Thiruvizha was celebrated happily.

Coimbatore Information Technology - IT Companies:

Big Software companies have reached out to Coimbatore and planned to start their centers. Even Google has come to Coimbatore with a Google Bus. Google was collaborating with Aravind Hospital on behalf of Google Foundation. Yahoo was setting up a research center. As usual, Honeywell is already there in Coimbatore Tirunagar area.

Satyam bought land in Coimbatore for their centre, but due to Ramalinga Raju's bad karma, he had to step away to jail. I am not sure what happenned to the land bought by Satyam. Infosys was eyeing Tier-II cities including Coimbatore for expansion - similar way of thinking like Satyam! Oracle had plans to start a center in Coimbatore.

CII Coimbatore Chapter and MADITSSIA proposing Coimbatore for new projects. CII Coimbatore Chapter had been announcing that Coimbatore is the next destination for BPOs. There were many BPOs started and closed due to lack of business acumen, projects or resources. Some of the solid BPOs are still around.

Coimbatore Passport Office:

Coimbatore Passport Office is fully functional in Coimbatore, but still there are lot of complaints regarding the functioning of Coimbatore Passport office. See our post about Coimbatore Passport Office in the coimbatoretimes blog.

Coimbatore Events and Tourism:

Sivaji statue to be unveiled in Coimbatore by Mr.Azhagiri.

If you don't have time to go to Coimbatore, you can have a virtual tour in Coimbatore Meenakshi Amman temple - Coimbatore Temple Virtual Tour. Still, you can visit Coimbatore, after viewing this virtual tour.

Coimbatore Marathon, FinExe 2009 (Micro small and medium enterprises finance market place initiative) etc., were some of the events in Coimbatore.

(TMS) TM Soundarajan was appreciated for lifetime in Coimbatore by Mr.Azhagiri.

Coimbatore Miscellaneous:

Here is a list for eating spots in Coimbatore - Places to eat in Coimbatore.

here is a list of hotels for staying in Coimbatore - Hotels in Coimbatore - Place to Stay

There are n number of websites for Coimbatore - here is one of them: coimbatoreone.com

Coimbatore Health:

Chikunguniya has affected Coimbatore a lot in terms of health and in turn had affected the productivity of the Coimbatore city itself. It is advised we stay healthy and hygiene and do not catch up all these diseases. Stay away from mosquitoes - they are the main causes for this disease.

Coimbatore Poverty - Law and Order - Crime rate:

Still poverty and crime rate is more than average. There is robbing of chains, robbing of houses, when residents have gone out of station. Even nights are not safe for anybody carrying cash and jewels. In this 'thoonganagaram' Coimbatore - Women folks do not have complete safety in the streets in nights and sometimes in day time in empty streets! What a pity!?

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Having mentioned everything about happennings in Coimbatore for 2009 - Coimbatore Times Publication wishes everyone a very very very HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone for 2010.

Followup on a scam in Coimbatore Corporation

Please see the article about Rs.75 lakhs pension scam in Coimbatore Corporation.

This is a news on dec 16th, but how do we track this? Will the news about this later, be published?

How do we track what happenned to the Rs.75 lakhs? Even if the money is caught back, will all of the money go back to the treasury in complete?

I am doubting some of the amount will be divided among some of the corrupt officials and officers! I and many citizens would be definitely happy if the full amount is captured back into the treasury.

Taking care of parents - Coimbatore Wisdom

As the parents become older day by day - they become like children.

I met very elderly parents of my manager today in a restaurant in our area.
They were very nice people. I remembered my parents immediately, after seeing them.
The grandpa was almost 83 years old and the grandma was around 70 years old.

They were delicate and calm. They were soft in nature and they enjoyed their food.

Overall, there came a thought. When it comes to taking care of your parents, I think it is like taking care of your children.

You get the same pleasure and joy of having children.

They are very sensitive, and I think we should take care of them and give them joy and help them enjoy their life in all possible ways.

It is a good thing to do in everyone's life.

Note: I am resuming back to blog after long time - please forgive me for any mistakes or flow of the article.

Are you a member of 99 club? - Coimbatore Wisdom

Are you member of CLUB 99?????

Once upon a time, there lived a King

One day, the King came upon a servant who was singing happily while he worked.. This fascinated the King; why was he, the Supreme Ruler of the Land, unhappy and gloomy, while a lowly servant had so much joy. The King asked the servant, 'Why are you so happy?'

The man replied, 'Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant, but my family and I don't need too much - just a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummies.'

The king was not satisfied with that reply.. Later in the day, he sought the advice of his most trusted advisor.
After hearing the King's woes and the servant's' story, the advisor said, 'Your Majesty, I believe that the servant Has not been made part of The 99 Club.'

'The 99 Club? And what exactly is that?' the King inquired.

The advisor replied, 'Your Majesty, to truly know what The 99 Club is, place 99 Gold coins in a bag and leave it at this servant's doorstep.'

When the servant saw the bag, he took it into his house. When he opened the bag, he let out a great shout of joy... So many gold coins!

He began to count them. After several counts, he was at last convinced that there were 99 coins. He wondered, 'What could've happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave 99 coins!' He looked everywhere he could, but that final coin was elusive. Finally, exhausted he decided that he was going to have to work harder than ever to earn that gold coin and complete his collection.

From that day, the servant's life was changed. He was overworked, horribly grumpy, and castigated his family for not helping him make that 100th gold coin. He stopped singing while he worked.

Witnessing this drastic transformation, the King was puzzled. When he sought his advisor's help, the advisor said, 'Your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined The 99 Club.'
He continued, 'The 99 Club is a name given to those people who have enough To be happy but are never contented, because they're always yearning and Striving for that extra 1 saying to themselves: 'Let me get that one final thing and then I will be happy for life.'

We can be happy, even with very little in our lives, but the minute we're given something bigger and better, we want even more! We lose our sleep, our happiness, we hurt the people around us; all these as a price for our growing needs and desires.

That's 'The 99 Club

Coimbatore Tourism Statistics

Tourist flow to the Tamil Nadu State had been increasing by 21 per cent every year.

Tamil Nadu has various tourist attractions, ranging from hill stations to historic monuments. Providing the statistics of the tourist inflow, another interesting information is - 6.5 crores local tourists and 17 lakhs foreigners had visited the State and 62 lakh local tourists and 2.56 lakh foreigners had visited Coimbatore in 2008. The Tirumalai Naicker Mahal was visited by 3.74 lakh local tourists and 30,000 foreigners last year.

This is a good tourist traffic for last year. However, I think for the potential of Coimbatore - much more can be achieved!

Recent Improvements/Updates to Coimbatore and proposals to improve Coimbatore - Azhagiri

Speaking at the foundation stone- laying ceremony of a high learning centre at Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) at Guindy, Chennai - Union Minister Azhagiri said SPIC would be open soon in Tuticorin, near Coimbatore.

Stating that an advanced tooling and plastics product development centre of CPIET would be started soon in Coimbatore, Alagiri said steps would be taken to reopen the fertiliser company SPIC within a month.

My aim is to make Coimbatore on a par with Chennai and its suburbs in terms of industrial growth. I will do it at any cost and will ensure that the temple city and its adjoining areas are no inferior to any part of the State. Apart from being the DMK organising secretary for South, I would also like to become the industrial secretary for southern districts, he said.

An expert team would soon hold talks with the Coimbatore district administration on identifying the site for the proposed Rs 48,000-crore aero park, according to the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Mr M.K. Azhagiri.

Stating that the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering Technology would establish its tool design centre near here, he said, my aim is not only to industrialize Coimbatore, but all the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

He said Essar Company Ltd would establish a business process outsourcing unit in Coimbatore, which would generate jobs for about 2,000 people.

Emotionally attached to Coimbatore

Compared to other cities in Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore is the only town which has Coimbatore Makkal to be emotionally attached to the Coimbatore city itself.

If you ask any one from Coimbatore - he/she would be proud to be from Coimbatore and they are always emotionally attached to Coimbatore.

There is association to the city with themselves for the innocence in people, Coimbatore non-industrialization and being an emotional village. Any one from Coimbatore would be interested to see improvements to Coimbatore and there would be interest to contribute to anything good for Coimbatore.

Recently, choreographer turned actor Harikumar - "Coimbatore Sambavam movie" pugazh..said in an interview that he is emotionally attached to Coimbatore town and he loves the Coimbatore city for the innocence of people there in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore and my Nostalgia - A pessimistic to an optimistic outlook!!

I was living in Coimbatore from my birth to my 12th standard. I had to go out of the city around 130 kms for my BE under graduation. That is where my nostalgia started. That is where my sickness started. When I said 130 kms - it was Trichy. I used to come to Coimbatore every one week or at the most 2 weeks. I thought it was long.

Though I got lot of things outside my city Coimbatore, I started missing lot of things, as soon I went out of my city. I was a book worm and academics guy until my 12th standard, but when I went to trichy for my Bachelors, I became a free person.

I got independence from what was told to do. I got independence, but I started to miss lot of things in my life. I could not get the same stuff and feel in any other city, as I get in my city. I missed my Coimbatore from that time. I missed my mom's food. I didn't see any match to that. I started eating outside. I started to smoke, drink, friends, night show movies, but still I missed my place.

I got placed in a bangalore company and still worse. It is a good thing to get a job, but still I was going slowly away from my place Coimbatore. As I grow in my career and improve myself in my life, I started to go outside my city Coimbatore. Is it always like that - to go away from my city, when we grow and improve? Is it like that for everyone?

I had to move to Hyderabad from Bangalore, which is now further away from Coimbatore. In fact, I was able to come to Coimbatore from Bangalore atleast by an overnight journey. I used to visit Coimbatore from Bangalore once in a month - that is to kill my nostalgia and still I was happy to do that.

This hyderabad thing was much worse. I cannot come to Coimbatore just like that. I had to come to Chennai first by an overnight train and then from Chennai I had to come to Coimbatore in another train. How painful journey?!

First I was just 3-4 hours journey, then it became 10-12 hours journey and then it became 20-24 hours journey by train/bus. So far fair enough!!

After that came an important opportunity in my life. I got an opportunity in United States! Well - it is again the same journey time as my last thing, but this one frequency of travel would differ right?, because this is expensive.

Initially I thought it was only 4 months trip, but that became a longer term stay in America and I could not forego any opportunity in America and that took me far away from my dear city Coimbatore!!

From that time, I have been in US for quite a while - I have lived in Kansas, NY/NJ, Virginia (Washington DC) and now in California! It is been 5 years I am in US!

Another problem I foresee is - if I get more and more opportunity in America and my child gets better future here in America, will I still go deep into the mess of nostalgia by going further away from my city and country?

Can I still be in a great position, by staying in Coimbatore only? If my daughter stays in United States and then I take my family back to Coimbatore - will my daughter get into this mess of nostalgia because of me - by thinking about America, when we move to India?

I am sure lot of people are going through this!!

Anyway - all of the above is more pessimistic outlook - I see that it is all for good. I would drive this negative energy into a positive energy for Coimbatore's improvement, my effectives, to fulfill my entrepreneurial dreams.

Yahoo Research Centre in Coimbatore?

Lately, I have been hearing news that Yahoo is planning to have a center in Coimbatore for research. Can someone validate if this is a right news or not?

It is being said that Yahoo is in talks with educational institutions like colleges and schools for performing this research in Coimbatore. The primary focus is being said around Cloud Computing etc., like that of Amazon.

At a first glance, even having key words - Yahoo and Coimbatore nearby itself excites me, as a coimbatore machan.

Hope to see lot of these news and real changes like this - Yahoo, Coimbatore, Amazon, Google?

While I talk about this - I remember Google related to Coimbatore as well, in various ways. There was Google bus running around Coimbatore for internet awareness in rural area. In other hand, Google founders came by to Aravind Hospital in Coimbatore and have a contribution from their Google Foundation, for past couple of years.

Coimbatore - Primary Health Centre - 100 deliveries in a month

Click here - Article in The Hindu about the 100 deliveries in a month.

A Primary Health Center in Coimbatore has reached an important milestone of 100 deliveries in a month! I don't see an achievement here?!

Coimbatore Airport

Sponsored by OruAcre.com

In United States and other counties, there is a website for every airport. As someone said, any city would develop and improve awareness if there are as many websites both informational and for every major entity in the city.

A acquintance of mine had created a website for Coimbatore Airport. it is called airportcoimbatore.com. check it out.

Any kind of hotel information, flight departures and arrivals, security etc., around Coimbatore Airport is available in this website.

Why should we buy land near Coimbatore Airport?

Sponsored by OruAcre.com

There is a confusion in all of our minds? Where should we invest our hard earned money?

When a city is developed, automatically things get developed and improved around Airport as well. That is what I am thinking about Coimbatore Airport as well.

Hotels around Coimbatore Airport would be obvious idea by the developers, investors and real estate builders. Rental Car companies, Hotels, Restaurants, Shopping complexes are some of the other building entities that would be planned around Coimbatore Airport.

IT Companies which includes both Software and also BPO companies would like to have the companies started in the Coimbatore IT park area, but there will be companies who might not want to go to IT park area, but stick to just the Airport area. That makes sense in fact.

Considering the government's investment in expanding the coimbatore airport into international airport makes our work easy. It would be a great investment and return of investment if we buy now some of the lands near Coimbatore area.

An area of around 20-25 kilometers in and around Coimbatore Airport would be a great deal for any small time individual investor. If you want to know about the lands around that area, you could contact any broker or agent around that area.

Lands near Coimbatore Airport in high demand

Sponsored by OruAcre.com

As you know already, lands near Coimbatore IT park were on high demand recently and still it is.

There is always some kind of improvement and advancement news in and around Coimbatore anytime. Previously it was around IT park, then the new medical center proposed in Austinpatti coimbatore and now the new airport terminal in Coimbatore Airport.

Even if anything is not going to be up in few days, all the news proposed are eventually going to happen in Coimbatore, pragmatically. Where would the developments go in Tamil Nadu - it has to come to cities like Coimbatore. What was the situation 10-15 years back for Bangalore and Hyderabad is the situation for Coimbatore today!

It would be a smart move to purchase lands even in small quantities in these areas around the Coimbatore Airport area. Why not give it a shot?

Sun City Real Estate Agency has come up with a land - perfectly arranged and split into plots. Here is the related post and the plot map available for you to view. Click here for the plot map and related post.

Swine Flu - Coimbatore India

Even though Swine flew is not detected in Coimbatore and India, its always better to have precautions, so that it will not become an epidemic

SWINE FLU

What is swine flu?
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs.

Are there human infections with swine flu?
In late March and early April 2009, cases of human infection with swine influenza A (H1N1) viruses were first reported in Southern California and near San Antonio, Texas. Other U.S. states have reported cases of swine flu infection in humans and cases have been reported internationally as well.

Is this swine flu virus contagious?
Swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is contagious and is transmitting from human to human.

What are the signs and symptoms of swine flu in people?
The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. In the past, severe illness (pneumonia and respiratory failure) and deaths have been reported with swine flu infection in people. Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.

How does swine flu spread?
Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing of people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

How can someone with the flu infect someone else?
Infected people may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 7 or more days after becoming sick. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick.

What should I do to keep from getting the flu?
First and most important: wash your hands. Try to stay in good general health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. Try not touch surfaces that may be contaminated with the flu virus. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Are there medicines to treat swine flu?
Yes. CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir or zanamivir (NA) for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with these swine influenza viruses. When infected, antiviral drugs can make the illness milder and better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications. For treatment, antiviral drugs work best if started soon after getting sick (within 2 days of symptoms).

Precautions:

1. Cover your nose & mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough

2. Wash your hands with soap & water especially after you sneeze/cough

3. Avoid touching the eyes, nose & mouth of a patient

4. Stay away from school/work if infected

5. Contact the doctor if fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea occurs

Coimbatore Central Library to improve and change for hi-tech

The profile of library network in Coimbatore district is set to change in about a months time. Giving lead to this image makeover is the District Central Library in the city which is now giving shape to various Information Technology (IT) initiatives.
It will no more be just an array of racks, shelves, books and a reading table. The District Central Library, which has a collection of 1.56 lakh books, will provide a range of value-added services, the infrastructure for which is getting ready.
Internet browsing centre, downloads, book scanning, printouts, CD writing, an exclusive webpage, bar coding of books and CCTV are among the things in pipeline.
Not only the central library in Coimbatore but also the 12 taluk libraries in the district at places such as Melur, Usilampatti, Sholavandan, Tirupparankundram and Tirunagar are being supplied with computers, thanks to support from Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.
IT has penetrated into every field and so libraries cannot be an exception. Each branch library is getting three computers and already the taluk level libraries are provided with photocopiers, says M. Kannan, Librarian, Subramaniapuram Branch Library.
According to R. Sakthivel, Librarian in-charge, District Central Library, the infrastructure development and IT installations were made possible due to a special fund of Rs.4.09 lakh sanctioned by former Collector T. Udhayachandran.
On an average, there will be 750 visitors a day at the central library which was opened in 1952. Out of the total collection of 1.56 lakh books, one lakh books are meant for lending and the remaining 56,000 are reference books, he says. OPAC soon
For the benefit of people outside Coimbatore district who want to know the details of books in the District Central Library, a webpage is being created with the help of National Informatics Centre (NIC). In library parlance, we call the webpage facility as Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) through which public can access the library catalogue, says Mr. Kannan. Librarians were trained in operating computers at a programme held here last month.
The annual subscription for library membership is Rs.10. Besides, Rs.50 has to be paid as caution deposit for three tokens and the books are lent for 14 days.
Browsing charges per hour will be Rs.10. Talks are under way with the BSNL to get broadband connectivity. The value-added services will prove that public libraries can be revenue-earners too by collecting nominal charges.
The District Central Library is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and it has a separate section for women and children. Library authorities put forth a request to the State Government to appoint qualified full-time/pay scale staff because the central library and branch libraries cannot afford to have temporary staff since it is risky when you are dealing with valuable books.

Many of us say that these things don't work in India . Couple of months back, the Faridabad Municipal Corporation laid new roads in his area and the residents were very happy about it. But 2 weeks later, BSNL dug up the newly laid roads to install new cables which annoyed all the residents. A resident used the above listed grievance forum to highlight his concern. To his surprise, BSNL and Municipal Corporation of Faridabad were served a show cause notice and the guy received a copy of the notice in one week. Government has asked the MC and BSNL about the goof up as it's clear that both the government departments were not in sync at all.

So use this grievance forum and educate others who don't know about this facility. This way we can at least raise our concerns instead of just talking about the 'System' in India.

Invite your friends to contribute for many such happenings.

PLEASE SPREAD THIS MESSAGE IF U WANT OUR INDIA TO HAVE A BETTER TOMORROW FORWARD THIS MAIL TO AS MANY AS POSSIBLE.

Coimbatore and Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Connection - Mulayam Singh Yadav and Laloo Prasad Yadav

EMG Yadava Women's college seems to have portrait photos of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Laloo Prasadh Yadav. Do you know why?

Looks like sometime back Samajwadi Party supremo and Uttar Pradesh 'politician' Mulayam Singh has good rapport with the college secretary and was impressed with the college and decided to give Rs.10 Lakhs for the college.

Similar story applies to Mr.Laloo Prasad.

I just wanted to let you know the connection between Coimbatore, Mulayam and Laloo. Nothing to interpret here:)

We wish Coimbatore Times Blog would soon become Coimbatore Times Publication, to revolutionize much more folks of Coimbatore in the world.

Coimbatore Improvement Thoughts:

Theme of problems:
For detailed problems in Coimbatore, see Problems list 1 and Problems list 2. Read further here...

What is Coimbatore today? Coimbatore is still a historic place, like india it is a developing city - but never developed. Coimbatore is filled with gangsters and survival of the fittest proves physically only. Coimbatore's talents are moving out of Coimbatore for employment and career improvement to other cities, due to under-industrialization and under-IT ecosystem.

Coimbatore's potential relies on Tourism for ages together - but not tapped to the full extent - at least not to my satisfaction. Coimbatore is great for IT and ITeS operations, but not completely used. Coimbatore is great for an export oriented facilities. Coimbatore is under-infrastructured in terms of air and road.

There is a great talent pool which is still connected to Coimbatore, but lives outside Coimbatore. Whoever is living in Coimbatore are speechless and helpless under the clutches of the political and physical powers.

Solution snapshot:

If there is a strong force of NRIs and NRMs coming and settling in Coimbatore, that would change a lot of Coimbatore to Great Coimbatore. Do you understand what I am saying?

If there is a strong self-driven REVERSE-BRAIN-DRAIN happens in Coimbatore, then no one can stop Coimbatore's improvement!

Here is how I am thinking reverse brain drain to Coimbatore will help Coimbatore become GREAT MADURAI.

1) All the NRIs and NRMs(Non-Resident Coimbatoreites - say b'lore/hyd/chennai living) would start businesses.

2) Lot of legal money would pool into Coimbatore.

3) Great Teachers with new(international) perspectives would mould children to a great future.

4) There will be lot of Non-Profit Organizations(Non-Governmental Organizations - NGOs) started, noticing/realizing the unacceptable behaviour of Coimbatore.

5) New employment opportunities would happen, due to new businesses and industries.

6) World class Medical facilities and medical professionals would be available for help in health.

7) There would be a strong need to make Coimbatore like Singapore or any other country.

This would change MADURAI TO GREAT MADURAI AND NEW MADURAI

Would you agree with my thinking? Thank you for listening and visiting Coimbatore Times Blog!!!

Significance of the photo - MS Subbulakshmi is similar to Coimbatore. She is elderly but a great person. She is a legend from Coimbatore and the photo shows she is lighting us the light to kick-start for Coimbatore's Improvement and road towards Great Coimbatore!!

Famous Joints and Drinks in Coimbatore

Coimbatore is famous for the Jigarthanda and Paruthi Pal, and carumbu (sugarcane) juice. Jigarthanda is a delicious drink made of algae, milk and sugar. Paruthi pal is yet another drink made of cotton seeds, flour of raw rice, coconut and jaggery. There is also a special 'fruit mixture' drink that is sold here, mostly near the Meenakshi amman temple. Some of the famous restaurants in Coimbatore are the Modern Restaurant (since 1956), Arya Bhavan and the latest Coimbatore Meenakshi Bhavan. The Modern Restaurant is the scrumptious chilli parotha(paratha/parotta), which is spicy shredded bits of parotha garnished with green chilies, lemon, and cilantro. Also competing with the new Caf Coffee Day is the very old Visalam coffee shop in Goripalayam. Another favorite joint is Murugan Idli Shop that serves steaming hot idlis and a variety of chutneys to go with it. One great distinction about Coimbatore's road side food joints is that they are available almost all the time, including nights.

Samanar Hill in Coimbatore - Vadivelkarai

Coimbatore is surrounded by eight hillocks that once served to guard the city from invading forces. Of these hills, three small but prominent hills (Yanaimalai, Pasumalai and Nagamalai -- Elephant, Cow, and Snake Hill respectively) have several interesting legends associated with them.

Samanar Hill which is present opposite to Nagamalai is of historical importance. Samanars (a sects of Jains) were said to have stayed in the hill fearing persecution from the then rules of Coimbatore. Many stone statues and other artifacts are present in Nagamalai.

I used to enjoy my childhood days in this Nagamalai. There is a lotus pond also near this hill. This place has a temple too - Karuppana samy temple. This is my kula deivam in fact.

I have written more about Vadivelkarai in a previous articles one, two and three.
