We take this opportunity to invite each one of you for the Curtain Raiser program on the MADURAI IT PARKS to be hosted by the ELCOT (Eclectronics corporation of Tamilnadu).

As you are all aware that the proposed IT Park at the Illanthaikulam is all set to be launched soon and the promoting agency ELCOT is organizing a Curtain Raiser program in association with SIDA, NASSCOM and CII on 12th January, 2011 at Hotel Fortune Pandyan. The Managing Director of ELCOT, Dr. Santhosh Babu, IAS would present details about the IT Park with specific reference to the opportunities available for the small and medium companies operating in and around Coimbatore. The participants may also use this session to understand project opportunities available with the State Government.

Besides the key note presentation by the MD of ELCOT, NASSCOM, the national level association for Software and Services companies would also be sharing their specific plans and initiatives for the benefit of companies of tier II cities like Coimbatore. The Chairman of CII, Dr.S.Aravind has assured all possible support for the development of regional IT companies and he will be present. The experience sharing of Honeywell and Chella Software, who already occupy slots at the IT Park would be certainly an opportunity to have a better understanding of the benefits from a facility holder's point of view.


Another highlight of the event would be the guided tour to the IT parks after the lunch. The officials of ELCOT would explain all the facilities available in the parks to the participants.

We kindly request each member and prospective members of SIDA to make use of this opportunity to explore the feasibility of having a slot in the IT Park and to know more on the benefits of operating a company from there.


At this juncture, we would like to inform you that SIDA is taking active steps to persuade the Government to come out with revised policies to accommodate the small scale IT companies for inclusive growth. Coimbatore, Trichy(Tiruchirapalli), Tirunelveli, Salem, Hosur IT Park Update

Tamil Nadu IT minister Dr Poongothai said six more IT SEZs would come up in the state at an estimated cost of Rs 675 crore in Hosur, Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore,Tirunelveli and Salem.

Mr. Karunanidhi said the TIDEL Park here would provide employment to 12,000 people. With more such parks, there would be industrial growth in the State and exports would increase. He recalled that Murasoli Maran was instrumental in setting up industrial parks in different parts of the State.

Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who also holds the portfolio of Industries, said the Chief Minister, in 2007, laid the foundation for the TIDEL Park. It had come up [over an extent of 10 acres] at a cost of Rs. 350 crore.

Mr. Karunanidhi established the State's first TIDEL Park in Taramani in 2000 and it had provided employment to thousands of youth. It was decided to open such parks in Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Salem, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli. Special economic zones were also coming up in these places. In 2008-2009, software exports from Coimbatore were about Rs. 220 crore.

The TIDEL Park here is a joint venture of TIDCO, ELCOT, TIDEL and STPI. Software companies in the State achieved Rs. 4,000 crore business in 2009-2010. The State had several advantages such as infrastructure, education, human resource.

Coimbatore IT Park Latest News - by end of 2010

Anticipating a surge in the Information Technology sector next year, the State government is readying five IT parks/ IT Special Economic Zones for launch between April and December.

�The biggest IT park in Tamil Nadu, the Sholinganallur IT park, will be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin in April,� said Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna, after an inspection of the park on Tuesday morning. The IT park in Coimbatore would be ready by June and IT parks in Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and Tiruchi by the end of the year, she added.

Satyam Computer Services Limited was the first company to have paid the full amount of Rs.7.5 crore to the Tamil Nadu government before it was allotted 50 acres of land on lease in the IT Park coming up in Coimbatore.

Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu C Umashankar had confirmed recently that the IT park work would resume and the IT park construction would be completed by next year. Coimbatore IT Park Inauguration will definitely happen next year, said ELCOT C.Umashankar.

Coimbatore is on the IT revolution right now. Karunanidhi granted allotment orders for 160 acres in Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Tiruchi and in Chennai, to top 8 companies that have come forward to set up shop in IT Parks being set up by the state owned Electronics corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT).

The IT companies have surely realised that they stand to gain by moving to the IT SEZs in Tier II cities, like the ones in Coimbatore, Tirunelveli(Nanguneri SEZs) and Tiruchi. As the STPI benefits will last only till 2010, the IT SEZs are the preferred destinations as companies can enjoy benefits for 10 more years.

International Terminal in Coimbatore Airport Function: A Recap

The Tamil Nadu government had given administrative sanction to acquire 614.33 acres of land to expand the Coimbatore airport, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said, laying the foundation stone for a terminal building here on Saturday.

By March 2009, we would have the first international flight from this new terminal, he added. - Bureau Report

Chief minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday April 26th 2008 laid the foundation stone for a new integrated terminal building at the Coimbatore airport, a facility that would handle 500 passengers at a time.

Airport officials said the integrated terminal building would be ready by March 2009. Constructed at a cost of Rs 130 crore, it would have state-of-the-art facilities and amenities, including aerobridges, flight information display system and centralised air-conditioning.

The present terminal has the capacity to handle only 200 passengers.

Karunanidhi said all airports in the state would be pieces of architectural excellence and match world class airports.

Karunanidhi also laid the foundation stones for IT parks developed by Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu at Ilandaikulam and Vadapalanji in Coimbatore.

THE industrial and textile city of Coimbatore is in the throes of a big change. For the past three years, it has witnessed ceaseless activity in every area � real estate, foundry, engineering industry, civil aviation, information technology, textiles, hospitality, health care, education and poultry farming. However, the resulting economic boom has brought in its wake a host of problems, and the optimistic mood that prevailed earlier is now tempered with caution.

If the six-laning of the arterial Avanashi Road and the cutting down of hundreds of trees lining the road for this purpose are the most visible form of activity, there are numerous entrepreneurial activities taking place quietly. For instance, the construction of a massive Trade Fair Complex with five halls and with a total built-up area of 30,000 square metres. Two halls, big enough to hold industrial exhibitions, and a food court of international standards are the latest additions. The Trade Fair Complex is the flagship project of the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA). It is gearing up to host the biennial Industrial Technological Fair from February 1 to 6. About 450 participants are expected to showcase different types of CNC machines, hydraulic presses, general engineering machinery, welding machinery, construction equipment, gearboxes, motor pumps, and so on. Fourteen foreign countries are also participating.

C. Muthusami, the low-profile president of the association, said: �CODISSIA is the first district association in India to own a trade fair complex. The complex is spread over 40 acres. The entire complex has been built without any assistance from the government. The first phase, which involved the construction of three gigantic halls, was completed in just 155 days.�

In April, Suguna Kalyana Mandapam will host a �Made in Coimbatore� exhibition organised by the Lions Club of Coimbatore Gems. The city has pioneered many products � wet grinders, household appliances and domestic and irrigation pumps, to name a few.

�What is not made in Coimbatore?� asked N.S. Kumar, chairman, Yenyeskey Machine Tools, Coimbatore, who is striving to make the exhibition a success. �The people of Coimbatore themselves do not know the range of products made here. Wet grinders were first made here. Different types of textile machinery have their origins in Coimbatore.� If there was hype about Coimbatore being the second information technology hub in Tamil Nadu after Chennai, it is becoming a reality. After a delay of about 15 months, the first steps have been taken for the construction of TIDEL Park, Coimbatore (TPCL). It is a joint venture of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), the TIDEL Park and the Software Technology Park of India (STPI). The success of the TIDEL Park in Chennai has encouraged its promoters to build a second TIDEL Park, in Coimbatore, which will be a massive plug-and-pay building complex for IT companies. It will have three basements, ground floor and four upper floors, a total built-up area of 1,61,500 sq m. Bids have been invited for building this sophisticated complex with civil and allied works at an estimated cost of Rs.140 crore. The complex will come up at ELCOT�s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for IT at Vilankurichi.
