New flights in Coimbatore to Delhi and Mumbai - SpiceJet

Low-cost airline SpiceJet Monday added Coimbatore to its route map, connecting the temple town with daily flights to Delhi and Mumbai via Chennai.

'Coimbatore is the gateway to south Tamil Nadu and is also known as the cultural capital of the state. We are happy to announce Coimbatore- home to famous Meenakshi temple- as our 20th destination,' the airline said.

The airline's Boeing 737-800, named Cardomum, landed in Coimbatore from Chennai around 9.45 a.m. with the traditional water salute accorded to it.

According to SpiceJet officials, Coimbatore is the first new destination added by the carrier to its route map after Sun TV Network promoter Kalanithi Maran bought into the airline through KAL Airways Pvt Ltd in June this year for around Rs.750 crore.

SpiceJet will go international next month, launching flights to Kathmandu Oct 7 and Colombo in Sri Lanka Oct 9.

The airline met the government's criteria for starting international operations in May as it completed five years of operations and augmented a fleet of more than 20 aircraft.

Coimbatore Airport Status - 80 years behind

I am sure you understand the status of infrastructure, especially AIR infrastructure in India. Too bad to hear...lot of things to do by the government...

Recently I visited San Fransisco International Airport and I saw a photo poster there near the ticket counters. A photo with San Fransisco Airport dating back to 1935, 1955, 1980 etc., were posted. I was able to compare Coimbatore Airport with it dating back to 1935 only.

In terms of Air Infrastructure, we(Coimbatore) are about 75 to 80 years behind...

Paramount Airways Coimbatore - gettings offers for tieups

International and domestic airlines have sought tie-ups with Paramount Airways and the company is evaluating the offers, Managing Director M Thiagarajan said here.

Talking to reporters here today, he said Malaysian airline Air-Asia, which would be operating its flights from Tiruchirappalli to Malaysia shortly, has asked for marketing help in different aspects. If there was reciprocity, it could enter into tie-ups with various airlines, he said.

International Airport Status for Coimbatore

The Airports Authorities of India was giving 'lame excuses' to not notify Coimbatore Airport as an international airport, despite it having all facilities for landing A-320 aircraft, T Kannan, Chairman of SPEED (Southern Prosperity Through enhanced Economic Development), 2008.

Talking to PTI along with R Dinesh, Chairman of CII and Joint Managing Director of T V Sundaram Iyengar and sons ltd said, he said airports having similar infrastructure like Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore had been declared International airports long ago.

Coimbatore Airport gets 610 acres free from Tamil Nadu Government

The Tamil Nadu Government has passed an order for providing 610 acres of land free of cost to the Coimbatore Airport, according to airport sources.

The Airports Authority of India had earlier requested the State Government for the land to carry out expansion. In the Rs 500 crore expansion plan, fire station, runway expansion and quality improvement works have been completed at a cost of Rs 75 crore till now. The new terminal building was coming up at a cost of Rs 130 crore.

International Terminal in Coimbatore Airport Function: A Recap

The Tamil Nadu government had given administrative sanction to acquire 614.33 acres of land to expand the Coimbatore airport, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said, laying the foundation stone for a terminal building here on Saturday.

By March 2009, we would have the first international flight from this new terminal, he added. - Bureau Report

Chief minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday April 26th 2008 laid the foundation stone for a new integrated terminal building at the Coimbatore airport, a facility that would handle 500 passengers at a time.

Airport officials said the integrated terminal building would be ready by March 2009. Constructed at a cost of Rs 130 crore, it would have state-of-the-art facilities and amenities, including aerobridges, flight information display system and centralised air-conditioning.

The present terminal has the capacity to handle only 200 passengers.

Karunanidhi said all airports in the state would be pieces of architectural excellence and match world class airports.

Karunanidhi also laid the foundation stones for IT parks developed by Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu at Ilandaikulam and Vadapalanji in Coimbatore.

The New airport in Coimbatore is going to be a 17,536-square metre building, to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 88 crore. It will have advanced features. The new facility has been designed to cater to 500 passengers. It has been proposed to have four aero-bridges, though initially only two will come up. Seven glass passenger lifts, five escalators and online baggage handling systems would make it a world class airport

This is designed by Mott Macdonald, the firm which also designed the New Delhi airport and they are experts in providing designs for private and public sector infrastructures worldwide.

Tamil Nadu (CM) Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will lay the foundation stone for a new Integrated Terminal Building at Coimbatore Airport on April 26.

Official sources said as part of the modernization of the Coimbatore Airport, the Integrated Terminal Building which could handle 500 passengers at a time would come up.

Mr Karunanidhi will also lay the foundation stones for the much awaited Coimbatore North Ilandhaikulam Information Technology Park and Coimbatore South Vadapalanji Information Technology Park at a function to be held at the Coimbatore Airport on the same day.

Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel would also participate, the news sources added.

New Airlines in Coimbatore - Air Dravida - New Airlines/Flight Investment in Coimbatore

Air Dravida to be set up with an initial investment of Rs 110 crore would start three flights in Chennai-Coimbatore sector from July end, its Executive Director Ramachandran Iyer told newspersons here last night.

He said while Rs 40 crore of the initial investment would be infused by the company promoters, the remaining Rs 70 crore would be raised through debts and private equity routes.

The airliner, a division of Premier Tours and Travels (Chennai) Pvt Ltd, within two months of its operations would add two more flights to expand its service in South India.

It is going to be 50 seater Bombardier aircraft from Chennai to Coimbatore.

Nearest international airport to Coimbatore currently: Situation would change with Coimbatore International Airport

Madras International Airport (Airport Code: MAA) is situated at Tirisulam, 7 Km south of Chennai. It has two terminals, Kamaraj Terminal, handles domestic flights connecting 20 destinations across the country with Chennai.

The International Terminal, named Anna Terminal, connects major destinations like London, Frankfurt, Dubai, Muscat, Bahrain, Dhahran, Jeddah, Singapore, Kuala Lampur and Sri Lanka.

Besides AIR INDIA and INDIAN AIRLINES several International carriers viz. BRITISH AIRWAYS, LUFTHANSA, SINGAPORE AIRLINES, MALAYSIAN AIRLINES, AIR LANKA, OMAN AIR, GULF AIR and SAUDIA AIRLINES are operating flights to and from Chennai.

Coimbatore Airport to have an international flight by June

In a recent CII meeting, Dindigul MP NSV Chitthan had said that there will be an international flight from/to Coimbatore to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Gulf Countries, Sri Lanka, South East Asia etc.,

Speaking at a function organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Coimbatore Zone, to formally present the report on �Traffic potential at Coimbatore airport�, here, on Wednesday, Chitthan said that the Union Minister for Civil Aviation had given him an assurance on the operation of an international flight from Coimbatore by June when he represented the demand of the people in southern districts of Tamil Nadu to him.

Speaking on the occasion, T Kannan, former chairman, CII (Southern Region), underscored the importance to focus on second-tier cities to boost economic growth. Expressing concern over the absence of economic boom in the southern region of the State, Kannan said Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai to a certain extent, were benefited by the boom that was sweeping the world while it was yet to reach other cities.

Coimbatore Airport Expansion to international standards

The Coimbatore district collector S.S.Jawahar is in talks to make Coimbatore airport to an international standard by expanding the area of the airport and the runway. This is being achieved by purchasing 100 acres of poromboke land.

Coimbatore IT park News and Updates - Top IT companies to land in Coimbatore

The top 10 Information Technology Companies in India would participate in the "Coimbatore.com IT Event" to be held here in July, the new District Collector T. Udhayachandran said.

Talking to press, the Collector, who assumed charged today, said "Coimbatore.Com would be eye opener, and Coimbatore will find its due place in the IT Map of India. "Udhayachandran was earlier Director of ELCOT (Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu).

"First we need to setup an IT park, I have already taken action in this regard as the MD of ELCOT.The park would require 40 acres of Land. Even if the Major IT players, like Tata Consultancy Services wanted land in Coimbatore ,we could help them by acquiring land from the Private owners." The immediate plan was to set up an IT Park to enable IT companies put up their IT units. Ongoing infrastructure projects and drinking water schemes would be expedited.

In other hand, Union IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran said that efforts to develop IT corridors in tier-two cities like Coimbatore, Coimbatore, Tiruchrapalli and Tirunelveli were also taken and as part of it he had spoken to Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel to develop the existing airports.

Minister said that he would be going to South Korea in the middle of June to hold talks with IT and other companies to ask them to start their business in India.

Minister said that as the new government in Tamilnadu was friendly with the Union government suitable ambience would be created to attract more and more investmens towards the State. 'Both the Central and State Governments are planing to increase employment opportunities through the IT sector and also planning to attract more IT companies into Tamilnadu,' he added.

He told newsmen here that Election observers for all the 10 constituencies had been named. Out of 15,32,230 voters, 75 per cent had been given Electors' photo Identity Card. 100 per cent coverage is expected before this month end.

Coimbatore, Apr 19: Former Speaker P.T.R.Palanivel Rajan, contesting from the Coimbatore Central constituency, today assured that an IT park would be established in this city if he was elected.

Palanivel Rajan played a major role in the development of the city during his tenure as Speaker in the DMK regime of 1996-01.

Talking to newsmen here,Palanivelrajan said a recent survey had revealed that most of the employees of the IT firms across the country and abroad were from Coimbatore.The city would prosper if they worked here,he said.

He also assured that he would take up his pet project of establishing an All India Medical Research Centre in this city and modernise and expand the city airport.

Promising to lay a world class road around the Meenakshi temple,and approach roads to the main Church and Mosque in the city,he said he would also take steps to expedite the Ellis Nagar and KoodalNagar bridge work for which money was sanctioned during the DMK period.

He assured that the two main channels running across the city,would be cleaned.

Fly to Coimbatore by Paramount


Paramount Airways, promoted by Paramount group, a textile manufacturer based in Coimbatore, has added yet another jewel to its crown, by adding the Chennai- Coimbatore route starting from today.

Governor Surjith Singh Barnala inaugurated the check-in and later flagged off the flight from Coimbatore airport at 7 pm. Lakshmi Murugesan, chairperson, Paramount Airways welcomed the gathering followed by a presentation of the airline by M Thiagarajan, managing director, Paramount Airways.

The MD said, 'Starting today we would like to announce an all time 50 per cent to the physically challenged people. Paramount will also be launching the web check in facility from today and we are the second airlines in the country to offer this facility.

International Airport Facility in Coimbatore

I have to write about this...
It is a great news that International flight operations from Coimbatore airport would begin in June 2006. We are very very happy about this fact. Business and Commerce in Coimbatore will improve to a great extent.

Looks like approval is enough for this particular process. International Airport Infrastructure seem to be already there in Coimbatore.

Just wait and see!!
