Coimbatore Tea shop - a speciality beverage in Coimbatore

Earlier, I have written about Coimbatore Tea shops - click here to read, but please come back to this article.

Coimbatore Tea shops are special. You want to know the reasons, here are they -

* 365/24/7 you can get tea.
* tea with a combination of murukku anytime. But in special times like evenings, you get bajji, vada etc.,
* You are treated royal, if you are decent enough in dressing.
* 1/2 tea can be ordered. that means one tea can be shared in two glass tumblers by two individuals.
* Tea is served in glass tumblers with 3/4'ths filled with tea. Smoke is also sold anytime, even one-by-one. - 'Bossu cigarette saapteengalaa bossu?' - 'bossu neenga cigarette saappudra palakkam irukkaa?'
* A friendship is shared with a tea. - 'Bossu teaa saappudunga bossuu'.
* A conversation is started with a tea.
* A Thanks is conveyed with a tea.
* On an average, men drink like 3-5 teas in a day, when they go out.
* 'paal-tea' can be ordered - which has more milk in it. that is why it is called paal-tea.
* Any corner street or main town place you go, you can get tea.
* The number of tea shops in Coimbatore is infinite.
* you also get other beverages - coffee, horlicks, bournvita...
* Even in hot sun and middle of the noon - coimbatore folks would be drinking tea, instead they should be drinking cool drinks.
* A tea used to cost Re.1 and 50 paise. But today, it costs Rs.2, 50 paise and Rs.3.

Coimbatore Tea shop is Coimbatore's Starbucks coffee place, as in US.

What if I have to setup a tea shop and consider it as one of my businesses?? Yes, it is possible. There are two ways - either setup a roadside shop or setup an upscale one like Coffee Day or any Coffee Bar etc., as my friend used to like Visalam Coffee Bar - I have never been there...

It is a real good business to setup a tea or coffee shop in Coimbatore. It will turn out to be a good profitable business...Think about it!!

Elderly People and Senior Citizen's productivity in Coimbatore

People wait for the age of 58 and retire from them work, once they are 58 or 60.
After that, senior citizens...

Privileges in train tickets; will have tax reduction and/or wherever they go they get advantage.

However, I believe there are much more things, which can be done by them. In foreign countries the elderly people and senior citizens are much more productive and independent in their life.

They generate money and produce something or other.

For example, McDonalds was founded and built by the Ray Kroc in his late 50s.
KFC(Kentucky Fried Chicken) was founded by Harland Sanders in his 60s.

Our senior citizens should try to be healthy and be productive than what they are doing right now, I believe.

The same advice goes to this generation also - in terms of health and productivity.

Pongal festival: Famous festival in and around Coimbatore

This is Coimbatore Mani. I will be a special reporter for "Coimbatore Times" from now on.
We are aiming to take Coimbatore Times Publication to the next level by end of 2009...

PONGAL FESTIVAL:::

Pongal is one of the major festivals in Tamilnadu, which is popularly called as Sankaranthi in other parts of India. It is also the birth of a new tamil month ('thai'). Now this day has been considered as the Tamil new year day by the government of tamilnadu also.

As this day is nearing by with only hardly a month, let me share some things about this day which I know.On Pongal day, the people used to wear new clothes and this day is mainly for the cattle and machinery used for cultivation. So farmers mainly celebrate this day by presenting the cultivated goods and presenting to the Sun god. The village people normally celebrate this day by decorating their houses, fields and cattle. They would expect this day as auspicious day as they would have harvested their crops and this should continue throughout their life time. The main food items for this day would be Sweet pongal (ingredients may depend on the financial status of the family).

Other things include the Sugarcane which is purple in color and the Lunch made of fully homegrown vegetables. Root vegetables like potato varieties is also included in the menu.On the next day of Pongal, people used to have non-vegetarian and the next day is the day of Mattu Pongal. This day is mainly for the cattle. On this day they will take care of their cattle specially by decorating and giving special food. Moreover on this day cattle will be sent for Jallikattu also - which is a popular brave sport.

I would like to share some of my experiences during pongal day.We used to wait for this day as we can chew sugarcane on this day. Normally I would love to eat sugarcane a lot. Then about the Lunch in our home it will be heavy with full of vegetables. All vegetables will be there in the Sambar and for side dish we would have potatoes, pachcha mochai and beans usili. Dinner will be completed with dosa and the remaining Sambar. This sambar will be in our home for another two days. :-)

Great festival! But now I am away from my home, missing all the above. Though I am with my family here, I am missing a lot without my parents who are there in my home town. I dont know whether I am having any plan to go to my home town on this day, but I am hoping to do so.

Hope your experiences are similar!

First McDonalds launched in Chennai - will McDonalds come to Coimbatore?

Global Food Retailer McDonald's was launched in Bangalore, Mumbai long back, but there was no McDonald's in Chennai/Madras for long time.

Recently, McDonald's was launched in Chennai and there was a first day inauguration for that.

The food chain has also blended various Indian spices to prepare an extensive vegetarian menu, including the McVeggie burger, Paneer Salsa Wrap, McAloo Tikki burger and Pizza McPuff.

My question is: When it will be launched in Coimbatore? Is Coimbatore ready for an international fast food? May be it might take 5 years to get international food chains to come into Coimbatore! Is it good for the existing food restaurants and hotels?

Launching it is simple - Get a Franchise from McDonalds corporation and start the show...!

Coimbatore Wisdom: Hard work and Persistency pays off

Coimbatore Wisdom:

As we have talked about setting goals, we need to work hard and be persistent.
In order for us to achieve the goals, we need to keep doing the stuff needed.

If we are quitting, we are never going to achieve what we want to achieve.
Quitting is a worst thing any achiever would do.

Even if we fail, we will have to keep hitting the wall to have the wall broken. Only exception is - if you find that it is a wrong wall, you need to quit and find some alternate arrangements.

Anyway, you will see joy, if you get the taste of success - out of your persistent hard work.

Coimbatore Chicken 65

When I used to grow up in Coimbatore, I crave for chicken 65, which are made in streets.
They are deep fried, in some oil, which I am not sure is good or not.

But, one thing is sure - Chicken 65 on the streets are very tasty.

I used to enjoy the Mutton Soups sold in the Palanganatham streets(near Nataraj Theatre) coimbatore, which might not be very healthy. Parotta in Subbiah kadai(now it is renamed as Nagaraj Parotta Stall Hotel) opposite Nataraj theatre.

I enjoy chicken 65 in the entrance of town hall road, coimbatore.

I enjoy avicha kadalai(boiled ground nuts) on the town hall road.

I used to get some magazines in town hall road and walk with avicha kadalai. Read some books in the bookshops like Malligai book shop and other stores in the same street. Walk up and down and get back to my hero honda bike:).

This was my major timepass in Coimbatore:)

Health is Wealth!! You will have to definitely agree to this statement.

If you are able to live healthy, you don't visit the hospital very often, throughout your life, which means lot of money saved. Moreover, without having any health troubles, you work effectively. Agreed!?

Let us take a look at some points to be followed for good health -
(i) Know your numbers - weight, height, HDL and LDL cholestrol levels
(ii) Know what you eat - read the nutrition facts in every product you buy and eat. Did you know Rice is really waste food, in terms of nutrition? Well, if you don't know this - please read the nutrition facts.
(iii) Do your exercise every day. If not, atleast three days a week in GYM. In fact, you don't need to go to GYM, you can go for walking.
(iv) Eat only healthy foods - wheat, fibre, vegetables, fruits, fish, egg and all protein related foods.
(v) Sleep atleast for 6-7 hours daily.
(vi) Have 2-3 hours before you to sleep.

More to come on Coimbatore Health section.

Coimbatore Fast Foods and Coimbatore Hotels/ Coimbatore Restaurants

Coimbatore has a huge potential for hotel and restaurant business. Especially fastfood business should go very well.

Coimbatore Pizza has not reached much, but it definitely is a good business, if you make it as Coimbatore Biriyani Business. Business model can be prepared very well, by making biriyani to be delivered in a specific time only. We can make it really professional, as we have any Domino's Pizza or Pizza Hut or any similar brands.

But definitely the business has to be structured, planned very well, before execution. The main thing would be the taste of Biriyani as well. If we make sure we have a good chef/master to do this, we are better off.

Think about it guys...If you are away from Coimbatore - you can have someone work on it in Coimbatore to execute and make your dream possible!!

Realize the potential of Return of Investment in Coimbatore!!

Sathunavu thittam - free meals

Sathunavu thittam was one of the best schemes our past leaders have implemented. It has be commended very much. The reason is this particular scheme solves both literacy and also food issue. The reason poor people are not sending the children to school is that they don't have money for their food. So they send their children to work. In order to make the parents rethink about sending their children to school, Dr.MGR have put across this scheme, which gives the children food and also education. The solution is a very simple one, but it is just brilliant. Kudos to Dr.MGR.

Recently Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha came up with meals in temple - well, I am NOT completely FOR it! but there might be different perspectives to it, because some say - it is good. This might lead for unemployed and lazy youths to just stay lazy! We need to leave the people and youngsters to work hard for their food! We should not just provide food to people without work!!

There is no such thing as free meals in this world - This is what every country has to follow - Don't give free food, unless somebody is totally disabled!!

Drinking in the day time!

In Coimbatore, it is very common for some of the road-romeos, to drink in the day-time, even though they don't have money for food and to give to the family.

These folks won't even have job, food to feed their family - but he would be the first person to appear while the wine shop opens. He will drink and lie down in the road unconciously.

Even though, drinking in the morning is common in western culture, they will make sure they are doing their work properly in their weekdays and enjoy in weekends and vacation times. But our poor folks are really spoilt because of liquor, when they don't even have money for lunch/dinner.

There are various rehabilitation centres even in Coimbatore working on these kind of cases.

The real sufferers are the family women, who do not work, but expect money from husband, because he is considered the actual bread-winner. I have myself seen many cases like this very closely.

Atlast, you know what happens usually? Yes - the ladies start working to their capacity. That is what happens.

There are various SHG(Self Help Women's Group) who have started working and they are rocking in whatever they are doing, which is improving their life and their children's life to the maximum!

Coimbatore Parotta Kadai/Stall

Well, the photo is not related to this article, since we didn't have a photograph of the Coimbatore Parotta!!

Coimbatore Parotta Kadai/Stall:

Though we live in the United States of America, we think about Coimbatore Parotta kadai's. Something is special in coimbatore parottas. We think of the delicious saalna, the server pours.

We could still remember the server coming with his dirty lungi and asks for what we want for the dinner! He himself will suggest kuthu curry or kudalu or chilli chicken or chicken 65!:-)?

We ask for 2/3 parottas for everyone for now and then while we eat the parottas with saalnaa, the master cook will prepare dosa and get us half-boiled eggs.

We also prefer kudal varuvall, moolla curry and chicken 65!

If you are a frequent visitor or if you are dressed well(neat pant shirts are enough), then you will be served with a special kuruma(saalna) as well.

If you are an international visitor of our blog, please visit Coimbatore, India to taste this delicious parottas, which are really really tasty and mouth watering!!
