Mr.MK Alagiri will not be present in his birthday celebrations in Coimbatore

Coimbatore District unit of DMK will organise various programmes to celebrate the 60th birthday of M K Alagiri, Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister and South Zone Organising Secretary of the party, here on January 30. However, Alagiri, in press statement, said that he would not be available at Coimbatore on that day and asked the people not to come down to visit him in person.

All other benefit providing ceremonies will happen as usual.

Birthday celebrations in Coimbatore as Alagiri turns 59

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mr.M.K. Alagiri's 59th birthday was celebrated in grand fashion in Tamil Nadu Saturday, with DMK cadres organising community feasts and blood donation camps and distributing tricycles and sewing machines to the handicapped and the poor.

Commissioning �modern toilet complexes� in as many as 10 locations across the city for public use, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers M.K. Alagiri conveyed his intentions to keep the ancient city clean and green.

Ahead of his 59th birthday celebrations on Saturday, Mr. Alagiri reaffirmed to serve the common man in all possible ways. �This is just a beginning. With the support of the people, the city will be given a new look,� he told reporters here on Friday.

M K Alagiri, who is in the midst of a controversy over his desire to speak in Tamil in Parliament, today said his "Tamil voice" would "definitely" be heard in the House.

"En Tamil Kural paralumanrathil Nitchayam olikkum (My Tamil voice will definitely be heard in Parliament)," Alagiri, son of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, told reporters here.

MK Azhagiri's ambition statement to a TV

Union Fertilizers Minister Mr. M. K. Azhagiri had recently said to a TV - "Among my ambitions, several have been fulfilled but there are few still remaining. One is the new secretariat complex, a world class library in the name of Anna and the 2010 World Tamil Classical conference. After the conference is over, I will come closer to you. The question is whether I need this ministerial office to work for the deprived classes, my answer is - brushing aside politics and power, I will come closer to you and consider myself as one among you."

Coimbatore PRP




Before ADMK left Coimbatore constituency to CPI(M), there was a news that ADMK was searching an "equally" powerful person for Mr.Azhagiri standing in Coimbatore for DMK. ADMK official O Panneerselvam was assigned the job of convincing Mr. P Palanichamy, PRP Granites and Exports owner.

However, looks like Mr. P Palanichamy did not agree to contest in the election for some reason!

PRP Exports is headed by Mr.P. Palanichamy, a veteran in the field known for his extensive knowledge on granites. He is ably assisted and supported by Mr.P.Senthil Kumar, Mr.P. Suresh Kumar and Mr.K. Murugesan as the pillars of M/s PRP Exports.

Mr.Azhagiri's manifesto says to convert Coimbatore to a Model city




Coimbatore as a Model City by Mr.Azhagiri

Here are some of the items from his election manifesto ---�
  • construct elevated highways in Goripalayam, Kalavasal, Palanganatham and South Gate areas to reduce the traffic congestion further.
  • fix the traffic congestion in the city by relocating the transport corporations from the city to the outskirts after consulting the police and the transport authorities
  • clean up the Kiruthumal River and Anupanadi channel, thereby ensuring a mosquito free Coimbatore
  • tackle the high demand for drinking water, he said that he would convert seawater into drinking water which would be brought to Coimbatore through huge pipes from Ramanathapuram. He also planned to ensure that water ran perennially in the Vaigai River by linking it with the Cauvery. In addition, he said he would sign an MoU with the World Bank to deepen the tanks in and around Coimbatore to make irrigation facilities available throughout the year.
  • increase the price of paddy and sugarcane for the benefit of the farmers
  • weavers that he would get extra funds from the Khadi And Village Industries Board to increase the subsidy given to them, also adding that he would increase the ceiling limit on electricity usage
  • Being a sports enthusiast himself he would invest crores to set up a sports facility in Coimbatore. This academy would also train the physically challenged and is expected to facilitate their participation in world competitions.
  • set up a suburban circular train service along the lines of the Chennai Metro. This service, he said, would connect Dindigul and Virudhunagar with Coimbatore.

Tamil Nadu CM Mr.Karunanidhi's son MK Azhagiri acquitted in murder case

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi�s son M K Azhagiri was on Thursday acquitted in the Kirutinan murder case. Azhagiri was one of the accused in murder of DMK leader Kiruttinan in Coimbatore in May 2003.

This case was moved to Chithoor, Andhra Pradesh - so that the judgement would be unbiased. Party men are very happy and celebrating the liberation.

Muthuvel Karunanidhi Azhagiri, generally known as M. K. Azhagiri, Coimbatore, is an Indian politician. The elder son of the head of the Dravida Munnetra Kazagham, Karunanidhi, he is a candidate to succeed him as party president.

It is being said that - following clashes between the supporters of M. K. Stalin and M. K. Azhagiri, he was sent to manage the party in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu from Coimbatore, while M. K. Stalin was retained in Chennai to manage the party in the northern districts.

M.K.Azhagiri has two daughters and one son. He lives in Coimbatore.
