2,50,000 Condoms found in a garbage in Alanganallur, Coimbatore

Around 2.5 lakh condoms supplied by various International agencies to the Tamil Nadu AIDS control Society as part of a programme to prevent spread of HIV infection have been found in garbage adjoining an irrigation tank at Alanganallur in this district. Officials, who inspected the area on receiving complaints from local residents about breathing problems after inhaling smoke from some burnt boxes of condoms, said these are worth about Rs 20 lakh. As per official records, the condoms were supplied to the local wing during 2009. However, an official who did not wish to be named said this was only on paper and in reality no condoms had been supplied. Officials said they are verifying the batch number of the boxes and the voluntary agencies to which they had been supplied, after which these agencies would be blacklisted.

Is still Coimbatore being famous/notorious for prostitution? Are there many agents and functionaries functioning for prostitution in Coimbatore? Are even people (tourists) looking for sex tourism or massage in Coimbatore?

This is definitely a darker side of Coimbatore, given that Coimbatore is a night city and there is lot of floating population and not to forget it is a tourist destination for even people in India (that is other parts of the country).

I know this busienss feeds lot of families, and it is ok to some extent in a society, but this should not be too much and a flourishing business.

I came to know to this fact, only by the number of people searching for this particular fact in Internet.

Overall - the affected ones are youngsters and even girls are sexually abused, due to their poverty.

I am wishing this business does not flourish and the youngsters go in right path in life, especially the girl folks!
