Integrated Textile Park in Thathampatti Coimbatore - ITP - 100 crore investment in Coimbatore

Eight new textile parks proposed in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs. 2,100 crore are expected to generate exports worth Rs. 3,700 crore, Union Minister for Textiles, Dayanidhi Maran, said recently.

Presiding over the launch of the Rs. 100-crore integrated textiles park (ITP) at Thathampatti in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu, Maran added that the eight proposed ITPs would generate employment opportunities for 80,000 people.

The Coimbatore ITP, which was exporting Rs.75-crore worth textiles involving an investment of Rs.100 crore with the initial 15 units functioning, expected to get an additional Rs.300 crore investment. As a result, exports from the park would go up to Rs.500 crore, he said.

Also, the ITP would generate employment to 7,000 persons, he added.

More development works would come to Tamil Nadu because of the better understanding between the State government and the Centre, the textile minister said, adding that the central government proposed two mega handloom clusters in the country.

"Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is prepared to give whatever chief minister Karunanidhi asks," he said.

Union minister for chemicals and fertilizers M K Alagiri, who inaugurated the Coimbatore ITP, said the Centre sanctioned all projects requested by the state as the Chief Minister was implementing them without delay.

Speaking at the event, Textiles secretary Rita Menon said the Coimbatore ITP would be augmented further in terms of investment.
